Gozo’s coasts change character quickly: Ramla is the classic sandy day, Mġarr ix-Xini is enclosed and dramatic, Wied il-Għasri is a narrow gorge and Dwejra is all geology and open sea.

Gozitan food is best when it stays simple: wood-fired ftira, local ġbejniet, qassatat, bread, seasonal produce and traditional baked dishes. Nadur is the obvious stop when ftira is the mission.

The easiest family days usually mix one main activity with plenty of unstructured time: a sandy beach, the Cittadella, a short harbour walk or a nearby playing field rather than a full-day checklist.
CLOUD 9 TIP: With younger children, Ramla is generally easier than rocky swimming spots. Keep water shoes for rougher shorelines and check sea conditions before swimming.

COMINO FROM CLOUD 9
Blue Lagoon, Without The Guesswork.
Comino is the easiest island day-trip from Cloud 9 because the boats leave from Mġarr Harbour, close to Għajnsielem. The famous Blue Lagoon is the headline, but you can also walk towards Santa Marija Bay, explore the island’s quieter paths or take a return boat that passes the sea caves when conditions allow.
TRY IT ONCE: The Blue Lagoon’s pineapple drinks — cocktails, mocktails and smoothies served inside a hollowed pineapple — have become a bit of a Comino ritual. They are touristy, but unmistakably part of the Blue Lagoon experience.

Get There From Mġarr
Small ferry operators run from Mġarr Harbour in Gozo to the Blue Lagoon. Typical crossings are around 15–20 minutes and services run repeatedly through the day in season.

If you plan to step ashore at the Blue Lagoon, the visitor system requires a free timed landing pass. Some authorised ferry bookings include the required access; otherwise book the free Blue Lagoon slot separately.

GETTING AROUND GOZO
Car, Bus Or A Mix Of Both.
For maximum freedom, car hire is usually the easiest way to explore Gozo. If you prefer not to drive, the island is still manageable with public buses, Bolt/Uber availability, local taxis and sightseeing buses — especially if you use Victoria as your transport hub.

Car Hire
For most visitors who want beaches, Dwejra and smaller villages on their own schedule, a rental car is the easiest option. Cars can be booked before arrival from Malta/Gozo rental companies, and some firms offer collection around Mġarr or delivery arrangements.

Driving In Gozo
Malta drives on the left. Gozo’s roads are compact but can be narrow through villages. An automatic is worth requesting early in high season if you do not want a manual.

Parking is generally easier than in Malta, but Victoria, popular bays and festa villages can get busy. Do not rely on finding a space immediately beside the attraction.

GOZO FESTAS
If You Hear Fireworks, Follow Them.
Gozo’s summer festa season moves from village to village. Streets are dressed with flags and lights, brass bands take over the squares and fireworks become part of the weekly rhythm. These are real community celebrations rather than staged tourist shows.
The celebrations usually build over several days, with the main Sunday combining religious tradition, street decoration, band marches and fireworks. Evening is the best time for visitors: the streets are lit, local families are out and the atmosphere is at its strongest.
CLOUD 9 LOCAL: Għajnsielem celebrates Our Lady of Loreto on 30 August 2026. The village is known for taking the festa seriously, including the unusual Loreto tradition in the main square.

Gozo is compact. If one coast is rough or windy, another bay on the opposite side may be noticeably calmer.

Distances look tiny on a map, but village roads, parking, swims and meals all take time. Two or three main stops usually makes a better day.

Use Victoria As Your Reset Point
Victoria is Gozo’s transport and commercial centre. If a direct bus does not work, changing there often does.

Carry Water For Coastal Walks
Many coastal areas are exposed and have little shade. Longer walks are much more comfortable outside the hottest part of a summer day.

Bus frequencies change by route and time. Check Tallinja before leaving for an evening meal or remote beach rather than assuming a late bus.

There are two main ferry choices from Malta, and they work quite differently. This is the part worth understanding before you travel.

Where It Leaves From
The vehicle/passenger ferry runs between Ċirkewwa in the north of Malta and Mġarr Harbour in Gozo. It operates 24 hours a day, subject to conditions.

No. Gozo Channel does not reserve individual sailings; boarding is first-come, first-served. An online ticket does not give priority boarding.

Pharmacies
Normal pharmacy opening hours vary. On Sundays and public holidays, Malta’s pharmacy roster lists which pharmacies are open in Gozo; roster pharmacies are generally open at least 09:00–12:00 and 16:00–19:00, although individual pharmacies may open longer.
Sea, wind & walking conditions
Do not assume yesterday’s swimming or walking conditions will be the same today. Check weather and sea conditions, particularly before exposed cliff walks, kayaking, boat trips or swimming at rocky coves.
Live ferry queue
Visit Gozo provides live cameras of the Mġarr marshalling area and approach roads. This is especially useful on busy summer weekends, festa periods and public holidays.
